Hi! I’m Jenna. Welcome to my blog! I am a teacher turned wedding photographer who is obsessed with your love story. I am so excited to use this space to share about the wonderful people I get to meet through this business, ideas for wedding days, and loads of pretty pictures! To get us started, I’m going to share my favorite love story of all time: mine.
My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together since 2008 and married since 2016. We have three amazing kids (two girls and a boy), and we often find ourselves wondering how in the world we got so lucky, and how the heck did we even get here.
Matt and I were in the same friend group in high school. We spent weekends doing the same things with the same group of people for a couple years before we *actually* knew each other.
The summer before our junior year of high school I worked at a Tropical Sno stand. I often worked afternoon shifts by myself, and sometimes business would be super slow, so I would send out a mass text (remember those?!) to our friend group to let them know I was working and see if anyone would want to come visit me. One particular day when I did this, everyone responded that they were busy for one reason or another… except Matt McEntee. He could come and would be there soon. I FREAKED OUT. I called my friend and asked what I should do. This was going to be so weird! I don’t really know him! What will we talk about? What is he going to think when he realizes he’s the only one coming?! (Remember it’s the mass text, so no one else knew how others responded.) My friend reassured me it would be fine and reminded me that he’s super nice, and if it’s weird then he won’t stay long and it’s not a big deal. It wasn’t much longer until Matt pulled into the parking lot, got out of his car, and made his way over to the snow cone stand. I let him know he was the only one that was able to come and he didn’t seem phased at all (phew!). I made him the snow cone he ordered and we sat at the picnic table right outside the stand and sat and talked until my shift was over. It wasn’t weird at all! So “not weird” that he kept coming back, intentionally on his own, and I looked forward to it every time. Fast forward a couple weeks and he asked me to be his date to homecoming, and a couple weeks later asked me to be his girlfriend! We went to high school dances together, went to Jamaica for spring break with our families, and lots of dinner and movie dates in between.
After high school it wasn’t all smooth sailing. We took some time away from each other (a couple times), but kept coming back to each other. I spent time abroad during the summers in college, and it was when I was in Italy for a summer that we started talking again and soon came to realize that we never wanted to spend time apart again. I spent the next summer abroad again and it didn’t even phase us, and then when I was in Ecuador for the last half of my last semester in college he asked my dad permission to marry me, bought a ring, and waited for me to get home. Shortly after I got back, I graduated from college and then kept asking when he was going to propose. He did a great job continuing to throw me off, but I might have been a little relentless about it and he almost broke down and told me all about it a couple times. He’s pretty great though, and kept it a secret until just before my birthday, when he took me to the place where he asked me to be his girlfriend, but this time he asked me to be his wife! Obviously I said yes! We made phone calls, and went to tell our parents (who of course already knew), and then to my surprise, Matt had a surprise engagement party waiting for me that evening to celebrate with friends and family! It was perfect.
Our best day ever. Our wedding day. I’ll dive into the details of this day another time, but it was perfect. There were things that went wrong (like the cake was pink and frilly when it was supposed to be white and definitely not frilly, but again, a story for another time), but it was the most perfect day because it’s the day we got to start our forever. The best day. I can’t say that enough.
If you made it this far, thanks for sticking around! Tell me how you met your significant other in the comments below! I really do love your story and I want to hear every single detail of it.
xoxo
Jenna
